 About Me |
I’m a Senior-level Family Health Clinician in private practice, Founder & CEO of a registered community-based non-profit – Adele Reproductive Health Foundation. Adele Reproductive Health Foundation is dedicated to healthcare education and information as a human right. Also, I’m the Co-founder of the Youth Policy Group for Reproductive Health project based at the INFO project of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA and run at Adele Reproductive Health Foundation. My work combines a passion for human rights with a devotion to improve the health care and living conditions of marginalized communities in Cameroon. For the last 15 years, I work on reproductive health issues and related healthcare issues like access to healthcare information-all things that might be considered peripheral to health reform but that are essential element of safe, healthy, and strong communities (and that should be part of conversation around health policy reforms). Like many doctors here who spend time working in government hospitals and/or other health facilities, I’m attracted by the idea of working in rural areas that are willing to commit significant resources to issues that are important to me, professionally and personally. It’s a tremendous privilege and somewhat humbling- to spend my days exposed to women and girls who are marginalized. I’m a pioneer in my native community with a demonstrable interest in the field of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues for women and girls in the context of human rights, social justice, and other development paradigms, where (as a member of the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Health and Rights) I’ve shown a strong commitment to expanding and promoting the rights of women, ensuring that while access to safe abortion remains a stigmatized and neglected issue it’s a central focus of my work for 2011 – 2015.
I’ve introduced reproductive health issues into local schools, colleges, universities and health facilities (public & private) for maternal and child health and for HIV/AIDS prevention , prepared adults and young people to be community-based health workers and classroom peer educators, and trained women in technical and entrepreneurial skills. Building the capacity of civil society to influence reproductive health policy is a significant part of my work. My work on abortion advocacy has had a particular focus on grassroots community mobilisation and tackling stigma and discrimination by trying to influence civil society leaders and decision makers at this level. The development of policy analysis skills has also been central, and this is where there is a strong link with the Health Rights for Women Assessment Instrument (HeRWAI) and MDG Action Toolkit.
