I'm finishing my Geography MA thesis on young people and their perceptions and experiences to and of public space in Toronto, Canada. Briefly, I compare the origins of the playground movement in the 1900s to playgrounds now, arguing that whereas these playspaces used to be seen as a means of saving children from themselves it's now more a matter of saving children from outsiders like pedophiles. Once people become 'youth', however, they themselves typically become the 'other' and this plays out spatially. I'm going to be developing these ideas in my PhD, but working specifically with street youth. Most importantly, I'm determined- however idealistic it sounds- that my research changes something for the better.
And other than that I'm a particularly big fan of rugby, running, art, mountains, waterfalls, travelling and laughing til it hurts.
