 About Me |
My name is Emily Trudell. I am a recent graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a double major in history and psychology. I prolonged my university career to gain some work experience. I worked at an international development organization called Save A Family Plan in my hometown of London Ontario. It was here that I first developed an interest in social justice as I was exposed to many local and global organizations and individuals working with impoverished and marginalized communities. During my time at Save A Family Plan I learned about the development issues facing many regions in India and gained many cross cultural skills as I communicated daily with staff in India and had the opportunity to visit the Indian headquarters in April 2008. In January 2010, I had a chance to participate in a university exchange program in England. It was very rewarding to form friendships with students from different cultures and adapt to new living and academic arrangements.
My other interest areas include psychology, health and wellness, yoga, meditation, environmental sustainability and community involvement. This past summer, I began volunteering at a centre for children with disabilities and at a homeless shelter. At the homeless shelter, I instructed yoga classes to small groups. I have been practicing yoga for years and this was my first time instructing. I am now interested in doing a yoga training as this experience opened me up to the possibility of teaching. I enjoy relating to and helping people. I plan to continue my involvement in such helping roles to further my career path. This was the main reason I applied to YCI. I am excited to contribute to community development projects in Ghana in collaboration with my fellow group members and field staff.
