About Me

Hi, my name is Donita and I am a Cree/Metis living in Edmonton, AB. I have been given the privilege of running the Aboriginal Youth Network, a national website by and for Aboriginal youth in Canada. I have been working in Internet media for an Aboriginal audience for the last 4 years. I like to be involved in activities at every level and in many capacities. Currently, I am the Youth Chair of the Healing Our Spirit Worldwide Conference Committee. Through the AYN, I am also an Organizational member of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO. As youth, I believe we have the knowledge, energy and capacity to make the world a better place. Speaking from an Aboriginal youth perspective, I would like to look back on my life and say that I made a difference for the generations to come. If anything, I would like to change the roles that we are forced to fit in and token participation where real decisions are made. Many times people are asked to represent a group - "youth", "person of color", "disadvantaged"... and just their presence is wanted and not their voices. I want to be there to say the things that need to be said! I want to live with passion and presence.
