Beauty, what is beauty exactly? Everybody knows it. Wrong. Everyone think they know it, have a vague idea of what it is. But it’s not the same for anybody; however, everyone wants to reach that idea of perfection. Whether it is by endless diets or surgery, either by training or anorexia… everybody attaches importance to beauty, in his own way. Haven’t you ever dreamed of being this “perfect” girl on the front page of your favourite magazine or to look like this haute couture model you saw in a fashion show?
But why are the beauty standards so strict, why are they practically unreachable? The pictures presented in the magazines have all been photoshoped, none of them escaped from it. Slender legs, slim waist, large breasts, luscious lips, is this really the definition of what we call a beautiful woman? Why should we refer to these criterions of beauty, established by advertisers? Even those girls in the magazines do not respond to these standards.
How are you supposed to have a good self-esteem when you are a young girl constantly bombarded with advertisings of a perfect body? All these ads are only getting worse the image we already have of ourselves. Because it’s not perfection that advertisers show us, it’s not beauty, it’s only a dream. They are selling dream. They know very well that nobody can correspond to these criterions, but they impose them to us. However, that’s not beauty. In my opinion, real beauty is deep inside of us. Nobody should have to tell us how to dress or how to talk, and even less what all the girls should look like. Because beauty is unique, and so is everyone. Just being our self, there is nothing better. A girl who feels great in her skin and who is sure about herself can move forward in life. And can finally realize her dreams. No matter what people say, girls, believe in yourself and be strong, you are beautiful and you don’t have anybody to prove that, except maybe yourself.
