I have worked in the Justice and Social Services field for 30 years. I am also involved with an International Women's Organization called Soroptimist International of the Americas www.soroptimist.org The Western Canada link is www.wcsoroptimist.org Our mandate is to improve the lives of women and girls in our community and around the world. We fund a number local and international projects and awards. One of the youth awards is called the Violet Richardson Award for young women 14-17 who are doing awesome things in their community . In May 2008, our local club hosted an event called "Share Your Story and Live Your Dreams". One of the workshops or panels was on world issues and how some people are getting involved. We invited a local contact with Taking it Global in Vancouver, www.cisv.ca -an international organization that promotes the tolerance of others through friendship and interaction, SFU Engineers without borders, Soroptimist International Governor Elect etc.
I am a mom and my husband is an educator. We love to travel and we lived and worked in Brunei and traveled extensively in Southeast Asia. I also taught grade 3 and 4 in Brunei. My students had pen pals in two Canadian communities..
Another area of interest is working on issues of Youth Engagement www.thrivecanada.ca and Stopping the Exploitation of Children and Youth,
