BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in development practice has of late been a subject of vigorous debate of concern. Opinion range from all stakeholders in the Best Practice of Development argued denial effectiveness to management of donor funds, initiatives in delivery, performance to the recipients and feedback to the public.
Most NGO’s operating in developing countries whether regional, national or international are established as catalysts for development and their activities reach the poor and most marginalized groups in society, with this NGO’s connect grassroots for development and claim that they are able to articulate grassroots reality much more than government with their macro-development strategies. Can NGO’s never change the world?

The growing presence and capacity of NGO’s especially in Sub-Sahara-Africa in all sectors of development needs promotion and accountability process, this is so because NGO’s are viewed as socially accountable, prudent and integrated into the communities to serve and develop the under-developed communities. In the developing countries, NGO’s have adopted different relations but left behind to carry along is the effective use of mass media as a tool for feedback. Some being bent on negative media hype and criticism leave behind the others good positive projects, worth of evaluation in partnership with international donor agencies even the government.
On the other, the survival of NGO’s depends on their loyalty to the public for feedback. Promotional process for NGO’s objectives through the use of mass media is of paramount in the Best Practice of Development.

With this, the idea of establishing a news media NGOs was conceived and initiated in February 2006 at a meeting organized by Mayowa Adeniran and Oluseyi Oyebisi of NNNGO, Lagos held at meeting room of non-staff activities of UCH, Ibadan . There at the meeting the need for the media sector to showcase their professionalism in reporting the activities of development sector so as to form a parallel media hype given to other sector in the by the media.

Subsequently, series of meetings and consultation were held, notable among them was at the International Association of Volunteers Efforts (IAVE, Nigeria ) on “Leadership and Youth Volunteering for MDGs and Sustainable Human Development Right Attainment” held at Umuahia, Abia state, Nigeria . There was an urgent call for media partnership in promoting sustainable development by reporting activities and evaluating progress on development issues.
By July 2006, other interested fellow in the media are facilitate about this project initiation for media partnership for NGOs.
