About Me |
My name is Danielle Cote and I am doing an internship here at TakingITGlobal for the month of May. I will be creating lesson plans and activities for the TIGed community. I am an educator committed to integrating global issues into my programming and I think that TIGed is an excellent resource for teachers to do so. I am very happy to be able to contribute to this community of educators and individuals interested in global issues and I hope that you will find my activities and resources helpful in your teaching and learning.
Here is a little information about myself. I began my studies at Trent University where I graduated with a BSc in Biology and Psychology. I then pursued a Masters degree in Social Work. After working for a year as a social worker, I had a desire to travel, which I ended up doing for the next five years. I visited 37 countries and became very aware of the effects of many global issues around the world today. Like many others, I had heard of these issues but they were not really 'real' to me because they were not part of my reality and experience of life. When I had the opportunity to see these issues first hand, I was really affected my them. On many occasions I thought to myself "How are we letting this happen?", "Why isn't anyone doing anything about this?", "If people saw this they would definitely be doing something.". I knew I had to do something! I became interested in teaching during my travels because I took up some positions teaching English along the way. I realized that as a teacher I could make positive change in the world by educating others about these issue. So, I attend OISE and completed my BEd. I took an elective course about issues in international and global education where I learned so much about critical citizenship pedagogy and global issues. This whole process has been an incredible learning process and here I am today continuing to learn about global issues, educating and helping others to also create awareness and positive change in the world through education.
I look forward to learning and sharing with you all.
