About Me |
Dabesaki Mac-Ikemenjima was born in Nigeria in 1981. He was educated at the Rivers State College of Education and is currently studying at the University of East Anglia. Since 1999, he has been engaged in various initiatives within the development and youth movements, and has worked for notable institutions like the Lifetime Caring Ministries, Teachers Without Borders and Development Partnership International.
He served as Nigeria's representative to the Commonwealth Youth Caucus (RYC) between 2005 and 2009, a role for which he received a personal commendation from Nigeria's President for his "patriotic zeal and commitment towards the regeneration" of Nigeria. In 2008, he was listed as one of 15 Nigerian Youth on the world stage and received the Commonwealth Innovative Initiative award in the same year. He has travelled to, worked-in and made presentations in 28 countries around the world, especially in Africa. He works as a youth development advocate, researcher and policy consultant. His consultancy experience includes assignments completed for the United Nations Population Fund, the Commonwealth Youth Programme, the Commonwealth of Learning and the African Union Commission. He was also involved in UNESCO's pioneer efforts towards the establishment of a virtual Library in Nigeria and led the Save the Port Harcourt Zoo Campaign in 2003.
Dabesaki has also published and led the development of official documents, the most recent being the African Union Plan of action for youth development and empowerment adopted by African Ministers in charge of youth in April 2010. His paper on 'Youth development reintegration reconciliation and rehabilitation in post-conflict West Africa A framework for Sierra Leone Liberia and Cote d' Ivoire' published by the International NGO Journal has been widely disseminated and referenced. Dabesaki enjoys writing about his work, his life and his reflections on various development issues and processes, and his recent book titled Service My Country shares his thoughts on various development issues in Nigeria, as well as his personal experiences and hopes for the future of his country.
He is currently engaged as co-editor of the Open Society Institute's anthology on Youth Policies and the African Youth Charter, Convener of the Forum on African Development, Adviser to the Centre Youth Development and Research Initiatives, board member of Sity Senta Incorporated and fellow of the Institute of Super Leadership Professionalism.
