My name is Carolina Velaz and I'm from Puerto Rico. I'm currently 17 years old and a high school Senior. Last April I went to this humanitarian trip to Honduras that changed my life. It changed my perspective on the world and how we loose ourselves in the material things becoming unhappy so easily. Just looking at this people's smiles, this people who had so little made me forget about myself. The fact that I could establish a relationship with this people made me feel useful, especially when the kids learned my name the first day. That got me going and currently with a friend of mine, we are opening a youth chapter of Amnesty International in Puerto Rico. We actually are the most active group inside the national chapter. We are trying to reach both private and public students, either from elementary, junior high school or high school. We are blessed to have so many connections that allow us to reach people through the media and large-mass activities. We have so many activities planned, specially as December 10 is near. I'm also a member of several other Human Right NGO organizations around the world.
My future plans are to study International Politics and Science Politics so I can eventually be a lawyer with a concentration on international law. I would love to work for either United Nations, Amnesty International or Human Rights Watch.
