About me
Brian Mwanamambo was born in Zambia. While pursuing his bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering at the University of Zambia, Brian got an inspiration to take a new look at the myriad of issues affecting young people's development in his country. He became interested in learning about the cultures of different countries and the role that the youth play in their own development and in the economic and political development agenda of their countries accross the globe. After graduating in 2000, he worked with an American NGO under a USAID funded project, in which he interacted and worked to help rural women and youth help themselves out of the importunate poverty trap that ensnare the rural populace in that country. Three years later, in 2003, he joined another USAID funded project that saw the creation of a local institution, ZATAC, that has rapidly become the centre of excellence for private sector-led agribusiness development in Zambia. In-between, he studied business management and administration.
Brian soon realized that issues of youth development, economic development and sustainable development called for his attention. Keen to drive himself towards making better contributions to youth engagement in the socio-economic affairs of their diverse countries, Brian soon got an opportunity to study economics, through the USAID Initiative for Long-Term Training and Capacity Building fellowship. Brian is currently studying for his masters degree at Texas A&M University in the USA. His research interests revolve around the themes: agricultural finance, investment analysis, international trade policy, macroeconomics, third world debt, and sustainable development. He keenly follows third world debt debate, and national and multi-lateral action on the millenium development goals (MDGs).
Brian is also an avid student of eCommunication and the role of ICT as a fundamental pedestal for youth development issues. In his demanding school schedules, Brian has recently enjoyed his time sandwitching studies in database design, web page design, and web graphics with his economics. Shortly after graduating from Aggieland (Texas A&M), Brian will register for the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) accreditation curriculum, which he plans to complete in two years.
Inspired largely by the needs of the youth in his country and even strengthened in no small way by the global youth leadership community of TIG and GYAN, Brian has resolutely geared himself to devote his skill and professional knowledge to the cause he now considers his magnanimous call of duty: the role of youths around the globe in charting the socio-economic agenda for our world.
Brian enjoys travelling around the world, making new friends, playing chess and learning different cultures. One of Brian's favorite quotations: "...the greater aim of education is not knowledge, but action." - Herbert Spencer (1820 - 1903). This and his own motto , "development anywhere is development everywhere", inspires him to contribute to global development through professional work and volunteerism. His greatest source of selfless leadership inspiration is NELSON MANDELA.
At the same time, he is very passionate about "Africa, My Africa! There's No Place Like You! My Home Sweet Home!"
