About Me |
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, I recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Civil/Environmental Engineering and an Architecture minor. During my time in Minnesota, I volunteered extensively with Engineers Without Borders-USA, a non-profit organization that works in developing countries to help communities improve their quality of life resources such as water, sanitation, energy, and food. With EWB I led engineering and public health students on water, sanitation, and health projects in Uganda and Haiti. From September 2007-September 2008, I served as President of the University of Minnesota chapter.
My experiences working with EWB taught me a great deal and have redirected my path from becoming an environmental engineer for the developed world to following my interests in sustainable development for the developing world. To reach this end, I am now pursuing a Master’s in Sustainable Development at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. I lived in Nepal for 5 months in 2010 for a research internship on rural sanitation with UN-HABITAT as part of the master's. I lived in India for 5 months in 2011 for masters thesis research on rural sanitation sustainability. Beyond studies and non-profit involvement, my interests include cooking and eating food from around the world, playing squash, bicycling throughout the year, listening to music, spending time with friends, and reading adventure stories.
