About Me

I am the North America Regional Focal Point (RFP) for the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA). In January 2009, I founded Athletes United for Social Justice, an organization that unites young elite athletes in the fight for social justice. Our first initiative is called "The Grassroot Project," and its goal is to use a sports-based curriculum to empower at-risk Washington D.C. youth to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and the stigma related to it. We also coordinate an international HIV education exchange with youth in South Africa. Our website is www.grassrootproject.org. In November 2009, I was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship and have been studying Evidence Based Social Intervention at Oxford since October 2010. I graduated in 2008 from the University of Virginia with a degree in International Health and Sustainable Development. I have worked on HIV prevention projects in South Africa and Washington DC since 2006, beginning with a DeBeers/Grassroot Soccer funded project to set up HIV prevention programs run by professional athletes in South African diamond mining communities.

I am pumped about the potential for young people to have a big impact at AIDS 2012, and look forward to hosting it in our nation's capital.
