About Me |
I am 26 years old and currently live in the United States. This year I graduated from the School of Public Health of University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Masters in Public Health (Epidemiology and International Health and Global Studies). I received my M.D. from the Yerevan State Medical University in 2004. Medicine in very interesting and I do miss it a lot, however, after going through through medicine I noticed that I can help the people in a different way. Prevention! Vast majority of the disease are possible to prevent. Therefore, I decided to go into Public Health, where through answering to the question “why” hopefully I will help those in need.
Currently I am a Peer Educator for SHAPE: Sexual Health Awareness through Peer Education, and am doing my summer internship with GYCA: Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS.
I have over 5 years of experience with non-governmental organizations, from local to international, where I worked with the youth, initiated various projects, awareness campaigns, trainings etc. I have been an member of the Armenian Medical Students’ Parliament (www.amsp.am), where I implemented the first student mobility program, the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (www.ifmsa.org), where I served as its Liaison Officer to Student Organizations 2003/04 and then Vice-President of External Affairs 2004/05, and the Regional Focal Point for East-Europe and Central Asia for GYCA (www.youthaidscoalition.org).
In addition, apart from the above-mentioned, whenever I can, I like to allocate some time to my hobbies, from which my most favorite one is rock-climbing.
