About Me |
Amanda Gelender is an undergraduate at Stanford University double-majoring in Drama and Political Science. For the past 4 years Amanda has worked for New Global Citizens where she is currently the Director of Recruitment, training young people to tackle the largest challenges faced by communities around the world. In high school, Amanda was a New Global Citizens fellow, receiving a $8,000 matching grant and mobilizing her peers to fundraise for the creation of a mobile toy and book library in Orissa, India. Amanda is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Stanford Theatre Activist Mobilization Project (STAMP) an organization which uses theatre performance to support activist campaigns and organizations. Amanda has previously worked for organizations including the ACLU (Death Penalty Policy Project) and the Junior Statesmen of America (Northern California Director of Activism). She is currently a Public Service Leaders Fellow at Stanford and a published author with her first book coming out in 2009. Amanda's accolades include the National ACLU's Youth Activist Scholarship and the Stanford University President's Award for Academic Excellence. Amanda enjoys belly dancing, tie-dying, thrift stores, sign language, singing and vegan food.
