About Me

I am currently studying in the Health Studies and Gerontology undergraduate program at the University of Waterloo. Through the co-operative program, I have had the opportunity to work in a health promotion role in a small Cree community in Northern Quebec as well and at Princess Margaret Hospital as a genetic counseling assistant. These positions have deepened my interest in health promotion. I also enjoy working with children, swimming and spending time outdoors.

I am an active member of the community outside of my studies. I am a resident don on campus, assisting other students during their transition to university. I have coached for the Kitchener Waterloo Special Olympic swim Team and I am a member of UWIHDA (University of Waterloo International Health Development Association).
During this trip to Ghana, West Africa, I will have the opportunity to address youth issues by promoting sexual and reproductive health education, and youth empowerment skills. I will spend 4 weeks during May 2009 in Ghana with six fellow students. This will be an incredible experience for me to broaden my understanding of global health issues and extend my leadership abilities.
